Japanese Spitz at WDS 2026 Bologna. The World Dog Show 2026 in Bologna has now officially passed into breed history.

From 3 to 7 June 2026, Bologna Fiere became the centre of the international dog world as ENCI, the Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana, hosted WDS 2026 in Italy. For Japanese Spitz enthusiasts, the show offered a compact but highly international entry: 19 Japanese Spitz were entered across junior, intermediate, open, champion and veteran classes.

It was not the largest breed entry of the event, of course. But small numbers can still tell a large story. The Japanese Spitz ring in Bologna brought together dogs and exhibitors connected with Estonia, France, Lithuania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden and Italy.

WDS 2026 Bologna: Italy Returns to the World Dog Show Stage

The World Dog Show is one of the prestigious events in the international dog calendar. In 2026, Italy welcomed exhibitors, breeders, judges, visitors and breed specialists to Bologna Fiere for five days of competition and canine culture.

The WDS team in Italy had reported 30,000+ total entries. This echoed the scale of the 2015 World Dog Show, the last time Italy hosted the event, and gave Italian dog lovers good reason to say: Go, go Italia.

The official announcement from ENCI President Dino Muto also underlined the technical ambition of the event, with 230 expert judges invited and a strong emphasis on selection, comparison, breeder experience and animal welfare.

For breeders, this is what makes a World Dog Show more than a list of winners. It is a rare point of comparison: different countries, different breeding traditions, different presentation styles, and different interpretations of the same breed standard, all seen in one place.

A Breed Seen Through International Comparison

For the Japanese Spitz, a show like WDS 2026 matters less for its titles than for the people it brings into the same room. For a few days, breeders from different countries stood in the same ring, met in person, and talked.

That contact is not a pleasantry. For a numerically small breed, the relationships between breeders across borders are one of the practical foundations for maintaining diversity, quality and long-term health. Shared knowledge, planned combinations, future imports and exports — these begin as conversations between people who trust each other, and events like Bologna are where those conversations happen

Congratulations to All Japanese Spitz Exhibitors

Congratulations to all Japanese Spitz exhibitors, breeders, owners and handlers who took part in WDS 2026 Bologna.

A special congratulations to owners and breeders of the main winners: Maho Mirai Percival, Cleopatra Bella Neve, Belzbentley Aussie Jester, Arčiau Širdies Galaktika and Crepello Who’s That Girl and every dog who represented the breed in Bologna.

The World Dog Show 2026 is now history. For the Japanese Spitz, it becomes one more page in the international story of a beautiful, distinctive and deeply loved breed.
