Japanese Spitz History Research

OBJECTIVE. The Japanese Spitz Breed History Project is dedicated to uncovering and preserving the historical roots of the Japanese Spitz breed. This non-profit initiative aims to find, collect, and archive historical evidence, documents, photographs, and related materials that trace the development and journey of the breed from its origins to the present day.

EXPECTATIONS. This project seeks to build a comprehensive, publicly accessible digital archive that will serve as a valuable resource for breeders, dog enthusiasts, researchers, and historians. By preserving these historical records, the project aims to highlight the cultural significance and evolution of the breed, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding within the global community.

The collected materials will provide critical insights into breeding practices, lineage changes, and breed standards over time. With support from funders and partners, this project will secure, digitize, and share rare and otherwise inaccessible resources to ensure the legacy of the Japanese Spitz is documented and celebrated for future generations.

APPROACH include but not limited to:

People: Document and archive the contributions of key figures who have played an influential role in the development and promotion of the Japanese Spitz breed. This includes breeders, historians, and enthusiasts whose efforts have shaped the breed’s journey.

Documents: Locate, digitize, and archive important documents such as breed standards, historical articles, kennel records, and other written materials that provide context and detail about the breed’s history and development.
