Japanese Spitz Pedigree Database
OBJECTIVE. The goal of the Japanese Spitz Pedigree Database Project is to create a central, permanent, and online accessible database of Japanese Spitz pedigrees, including health and behavior information. This international, cooperative effort aims to gather pedigree data currently scattered across various kennel clubs worldwide and consolidate it into a single, comprehensive resource. By doing so, the entire lineage of the breed will be traceable from its founders to present-day dogs.
EXPECTATIONS. A well-maintained pedigree database is crucial for effective breeding programs and genetic management, enabling breeders and dog owners to make informed decisions. This project provides immediate benefits by offering insights into health trends, genetic diversity, and potential hereditary issues. Breeders will gain access to valuable data that supports responsible breeding practices, while dog owners can better understand their pets’ backgrounds and health predispositions, contributing to the overall well-being and sustainability of the breed.
APPROACH Including but not limited to
Founder Dogs: Collect and record information about significant Japanese Spitz dogs throughout history, including champions, foundation dogs, and notable lineage contributors. This subproject will highlight their roles in breeding programs and their impact on the breed’s characteristics.
