PRA-rcd4 Genetic Testing: January Results Snapshot

As of the end of January 2026, the PRA-rcd4 dataset continues to grow steadily through voluntary contributions from breeders worldwide.

Current dataset (January 2026):

  • Total genetic tests collected: 467
  • Clear (WT/WT): 67.9%
  • Carriers (WT/MUT): 27.6%
  • Affected (MUT/MUT): 21 dogs (4.5%)

This dataset now represents one of the largest openly documented PRA-rcd4 collections within the Japanese Spitz breed.

While not yet sufficient for full population-level conclusions, it clearly moves the discussion beyond isolated cases and anecdotal reports, allowing early pattern recognition and informed risk management.

Breeder Collaboration: “Japanese Spitz History” Community

The private breeder community Japanese Spitz History continues to function as a working discussion and verification space.

Progress in breeding does not come from dramatic breakthroughs, but from sustained, methodical accumulation of evidence — and shared commitment.

The work continues.
