Marco Piasentin was born in Dolo, Venice, Italy, in 1942. He graduated in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering and had a distinguished career as a technical manager and managing director in the chemical and non-ferrous metals industry. Despite his demanding professional life, Marco harbored a deep and abiding love for animals, which became one of the most significant aspects of his legacy.
In 1984, with encouragement from Japanese friends, Marco discovered the Japanese Spitz, a breed that captured his heart. In March 1985, he received his first two Japanese Spitz at Rome airport, imported directly from Japan. These dogs were not only his first but also the first Japanese Spitz to arrive in Italy. Over the years, Marco imported a total of seven Japanese Spitz from Japan, thanks to the invaluable support of his Japanese friends. He became the first person in Italy to successfully import and breed this exceptional dog.
Marco’s Almarven’s Kennel quickly gained international recognition. Dogs bred at Almarven’s Kennel became a cornerstone in many pedigrees worldwide, contributing significantly to the genetic diversity and quality of Japanese Spitz lines across the globe. Breeders everywhere benefited from the exceptional bloodlines Marco developed, and his dedication to maintaining the breed’s standards left a lasting mark on the international dog breeding community.
In 1997, Marco published The Japanese Spitz in English through Zielo Edizioni, Padua, Italy (ISBN 88-85689-16-7). This landmark book was the culmination of three years of meticulous research and over a decade of hands-on experience. It became the first comprehensive manual on the breed in English. Across ten chapters, it offers a wealth of information, including 200 photos (half in color), over 50 drawings, tables, and diagrams. The book explores the breed’s origins, traits, and practical advice for breeding and care. Detailed genealogies and checklists of foundation dogs in Japan and Europe further enhance its value as an indispensable guide for breeders and enthusiasts.
In addition to his book, Marco published several articles, further enriching the global understanding and appreciation of the Japanese Spitz. His work, both as an author and breeder, ensured the breed’s lasting legacy. Through his contributions, Marco G. Piasentin became an enduring figure in the world of dog breeding, blending technical expertise with a profound love for animals.
