I’m happy to announce that the article “Progressive Retinal Atrophy in the Japanese Spitz Dog: A Clinical and Genetic Study” is now publicly available. It covers the Japanese Spitz PRA study.
This is the first clinical and genetic investigation of Japanese Spitz PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy ). The study uses ECVO-standard eye exams. It combines them with next-generation DNA sequencing. This approach identifies the PRA-rcd4 mutation as a cause of blindness in affected individuals. It provides practical recommendations. These recommendations integrate DNA testing into breeding decisions. They aim to preserve vision and genetic diversity in the breed.
Where to read it:
1. Zenodo Version (Open Access Repository). It is the OpenAIRE project. It leads the open access and open data movements in Europe. The EC commissioned it to support their nascent Open Data policy. It provides a catch-all repository for EC funded research. It is powered and hosted by CERN, an OpenAIRE partner and pioneer in open source, open access and open data. Zenodo is indexed by Google Scholar and OpenAIRE. It is also indexed by major scientific databases. This makes it easy to reference in future research and health strategies.

2. Academia.edu Version. Academia’s mission is to accelerate the world’s research by believe that science is a transformative lever for technological progress. On Academia, you’ll find the full study PDF. There’s also a space for open discussion and feedback. You can follow updates on related canine genetic research.
