Diving into the history of the Japanese Spitz in Norway is like stepping into a bit of a mystery story. But I’m sure that together, we can piece together the fascinating tale of this adorable breed’s journey in Norway.
Sabina Of Moon Light (Breeder: Y. Kaneko, Sire: Adonis Of New Port, Dam: Tess Of Moon Light, Reg. No.: 00011/77). According to historical records, she was born on March 10, 1967. She arrived in Norway that same year. Yet, she wasn’t officially registered in the NKK stud book until 1977 when she was ten. We just know, she had no offspring, despite being the first Japanese Spitz brought to Europe and Norway. Unfortunately, no photo of Sabina has been found.
The next significant import was Florence Of Rose Garden (Reg. No. N00242/75), born December 5, 1975, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. She shared the same mother as Daniel Of Rose Garden, known to us earlier:
- Sire: Andy Lucky Of Rose Garden
- Dam: Rommy Of Rose Garden
Florence was the dam of the first litter registered in Norway, born on January 29, 1977, which included:
- Hiru Dagtid (male) – who fathered 9 litters (46 puppies) and contributed to the Nippon Spitz kennel.
- Hiromi Hvit Skjønnhet (female)
- Hiro Dag (male)
This marked the official start of Japanese Spitz breeding in Norway with Florence Of Rose Garden leading the lineage. I heard that Florence’s owner was reportedly Traore Alvhild from Selvik, Norway. Still, detailed information about her import remains elusive. Photos are also elusive.
The same year we can see extra import registrations from Japan:
- White Cherry II Of Tokyo Washington, born May 15, 1976, Reg. No.: 10414/77, who later sired 5 litters with 25 puppies.
- Aster Of Monami Fujinomiya, born September 21, 1975, Reg. No.: 00010/77, who produced 7 litters and 24 puppies,
as per the NKK stud book.
Couple year late, by 1979, the efforts culminated in the founding of Norwegian Japanese Spitzhundklubb was founded
Attached Photo: I’m fortunate to have found a photo of Andy Lucky Of Rose Garden. He is the father of Florence Of Rose Garden. I am sharing the photo here. It’s the only photo I’ve managed to find of the dogs mentioned above.
