Britta Schweikl-Ecklmayr bred the first Japanese Spitz registered in Russia. The dog’s name was Odorikko von der Hausruckhöhe. This occurred on June 20, 1994, in Austria (Hausruck).

Rikki was part of a litter sired by Alkola Tomodachi and whelped by Yukiarashi von der Hausruckhohe. Rikki’s owner, Nikolai Pavlenko, is known as one of the greatest tiger trainers in XX century. He shared how meeting Rikki changed his life. At first, he felt nervous about not having chosen the puppy himself. Still, those fears vanished when he saw her. For Pavlenko, Rikki perfectly represented the Japanese Spitz ideal. He described her as “a little white cloud on legs”. She quickly became a beloved member of his kennel and brought him immense joy.

During the first six years of her life, Rikki had several litters of puppies and even grandchildren. Pavlenko often worried about her well-being, as he saw her as a special gift. Despite owning dozens of dogs over nearly two decades, he believed none could match Rikki’s unique charm. Pavlenko’s wife also praised Rikki, saying, “All of our dogs are beloved, but Rikki was like a little human.”

Rikki made a lasting impact on Japanese Spitz breeding in Russia. Her name appears directly in the pedigrees of many older dogs, her influence extends throughout the breed’s lineage. She even traveled to Japan with Pavlenko. Breed experts admired her beauty. Yet, they commented on her slightly large eyes.

Rikki’s story, as remembered by Nikolai Pavlenko, is one of joy, legacy, and enduring significance. She holds a special place in the history of the Japanese Spitz breed in Russia. She also remains a cherished figure in her owner’s life. Her journey from Germany to Russia marked the beginning of a new chapter for the breed.
